Minister of Foreign Affairs Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu paid a working visit to Turkish Republic of North Cyprus on 26 May 2015.

Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu was received by the TRNC President Mustafa Akıncı. At the meeting which was also attended by the TRNC Foreign Minister Özdil Nami, views on recent developments were exchanged.

Speaking at the joint press conference held after the meetings, Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu stated that Turkey is determined more than ever on the resolution of the Cyprus issue and works for a lasting and just solution.

Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu said “Resolution of this problem will be beneficial to everyone. Island of Cyprus will be an island for peace and development, an island of welfare which will be beneficial to both nations of the island. As it has been the case through this process, we always stood by TRNC and we will continue to do so. Our support to Northern Cyprus and its population will continue unabated.”

TRNC President Akıncı stressed “I believe with my whole heart that it is time to move on to a new era in Cyprus after years of ongoing deadlock, an era which will protect the legitimate rights and interests of both sides, which will make it possible for all of us to live in equality and safety. This is the purpose of the negotiations.”

Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu also met with Sibel Siber, Speaker of the Republican Assembly and Özkan Yorgancıoğlu, Prime Minister of the TRNC.
