Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu is in New York

Foreign Minister Mr. Çavuşoğlu has arrived in New York on October 10, 2014 within the framework of Turkey’s candidacy campaign for the United Nations Security Council for the period 2015-2016.

On the occasion of his visit to New York, Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu held a meeting on October 11, with the Turkish Consul Generals in North America and met with the representatives of the Turkish associations in the US.

The Consul Generals of Turkey in Houston, Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, Miami, Boston and Toronto participated in the meeting as well as Turkey’s Ambassadors to US and Canada. During the meeting, steps to enhance the service quality of the Consulate Generals, cultural and promotional activities, and development of commercial relations, relations with the federal states and local authorities as well as facilitation of voting of our citizens living abroad were discussed.

During the meeting held with the directors of Turkish associations in the US, Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu mentioned that Turkish community’s voice in the United States was becoming stronger by the day and added that Turkish associations in the US play an important role in deepening Turkey’s bilateral relations with the US and before the US Administration, Congress and the public opinion.

Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu received the Permanent Representatives of the Southeastern European Countries on the occasion of a working breakfast at the Permanent Representation of Turkey to the UN on Monday, October 13. During the breakfast, an exchange of views on regional developments took place.

Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu also met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of New Zealand and Spain, who are conducting candidacy campaigns for the United Nations Security Council for the period 2015-2016. Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu conveyed his wishes of success to his interlocutors for the elections for non-permanent seats in the United Nations Security Council which will take place on Thursday, 16 October.

Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu also met with the Permanent Representatives of the member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
