Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, Mr. Miroslav Lajcak has paid an official visit to Turkey on 10-11 December 2014 upon the invitation of Turkish Foreign Minister Mr. Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu.

On the occasion of the visit, the Ministers exchanged views on all aspects of Turkish-Slovakian relations as well as on regional and international issues concerning both countries.

Speaking at the joint press conference held after the meeting, Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu stated that bilateral relations are at an excellent level and continue to gain momentum and that the two countries which are allies in NATO, have fruitful cooperation on international platforms. Expressing that they share the same views on many regional and global issues, Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu said “We reviewed all aspects of our bilateral relations, we had the opportunity to discuss several issues such as our EU accession process, Cyprus, the Balkans, Iraq and Syria.”

Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu said that they also reviewed the possibilities of cooperation within the framework of The Visegrad Four as Slovakia currently holds the Presidency of the Group. Foreign Minister expressed that he conveyed Turkey’s wish for holding the next meeting of the group in Turkey.

On the other hand, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of Slovakia, Lajcak stated that cooperation in the area of economy and trade relations between the two countries continue to develop and the trade volume has increased six fold in ten years. Lajcak emphasized that there is a huge potential for cooperation in the area of information technologies which must be utilized.
