Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu Participates in the 53rd session of the Munich Security Conference (MSC), February 17-19, 2017

Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu paid a visit to Munich to participate in the the 53rd session of the Munich Security Conference (MSC) with Prime Minister Yıldırım on February 17-19, 2017.

In the margins of the Conference, Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu held numerous bilateral talks. Çavuşoğlu met with Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Erlan Abdyldaev, Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif, Liechtensteinerin Foreign Minister Aurelia Frick, Macedonian Foreign Minister Nikola Poposki, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the German Bundestag Norbert Röttgen and discussed bilateral and regional issues. At the meeting with United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi who praised the situation of refugees in Turkey, the steps that international community should take for supporting refugees were elaborated. Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu held meetings with Chairman of Information Policies Commission of the Russian Federation Council Aleksey Pushkov, First Vice-President of the European Commission Timmermans, Croatian Foreign Minister Davor Ivo Stier, French MP of the Republicans Bruno Le Maire, Slovak Foreign Minister Miroslav Lajcak, Moldovan Foreign Minister Andrei Galbur, UK Minister of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs Alan Duncan, Romanian Foreign Minister Teodor Melescanu and Foreign Minister of Rwanda Louise Mushikiwabo and First Vice President of South Sudan, Taban Deng Gai. At these meetings, Turkey-Russia relations, recent developments in Turkey-EU relations, developments in the Balkans and bilateral and international issues were discussed.

Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu also accompanied Prime Minister Yıldırım during his contacts in Munich. Prime Minister received European Commissioner for Migration, Home Affairs and Citizenship Dimitris Avramopoulos. At the meeting, Turkey-EU relationship as well as regional cooperation issues were discussed, and the importance of the implementation of Turkey-EU Agreement of 18 March 2016 was stressed. Then, Prime Minister met with Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel, President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan and US Vice President Michael Pence. During the meeting between Prime Minister and US Vice President which Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu also attended, determination to strengthen partnership between the two friendly and allied countries Turkey and US was underlined once again. Bilateral relations, military and security issues within NATO, extradition of the leader of the Gulenist Terrorist Organization, fight against terrorism and the importance of joint action were on the agenda. Prime Minister had meetings with Prime Minister of Montenegro Duško Marković, Chair of the Group of the European People's Party (EPP) Manfred Weber, President of Afghanistan Ashraf Ghani, Prime Minister of Georgia Giorgi Kvirikashvili and KRI President Masoud Barzani.

On 19 February 2017, Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu delivered a speech at the panel entitled "Old Crises, New Middle East" and shared Turkey's views on recent developments in the region.

Before leaving Munich, Minister Çavuşoğlu replied the questions of the media and joined Prime Minister Yıldırım's meeting with the representatives of Turkish citizens in Germany.
