Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu visited Germany to attend the Commemoration Ceremonies for the 25th Anniversary of Solingen Attack, 29 May 2018

Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu visited Düsseldorf and Solingen in Germany on 29 May 2018 to attend the commemoration ceremonies for five Turkish citizens who lost their lives as a result of an arson attack by a group of racists in Solingen on 29 May 1993.

Minister Çavuşoğlu came together with members of Genç family whose house was put on fire 25 years ago by a group of racists, claiming 5 innocent lives.

During the visit, Minister Çavuşoğlu met with Minister President Armin Laschet of North Rhine-Westphalia. At the meeting, views on the situation of Turkish citizens living in the state and the fight against Islamophobia, racism, xenophobia and terrorism were exchanged.

Minister Çavuşoğlu met with Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany. Minister Çavuşoğlu reiterated Turkey’s expectations from Germany regarding the fight against terrorist organizations PKK and FETO.

At the meeting held between Minister Çavuşoğlu and Foreign Minister Heiko Maas of Germany, issues pertaining to the Turkish community living in Germany, relations between Turkey and Germany, and regional developments were discussed.
