Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu accompanied President Erdoğan who visited Sochi to attend the Trilateral Summit on Syria on 22 November 2017.

During the Trilateral Summit held by the participation of President Erdoğan, President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, and President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Hassan Rouhani, the progress made in the reduction of violence in Syria as a result of the Astana talks, the ongoing efforts inside the de-escalation zones and the fight against terrorist elements in Syria were discussed.

At the end of the tripartite meeting, the leaders released the following joint statement:

President Erdoğan stated that the leaders "agreed to assist the Syrians in restoring unity of the country and achieving a political solution of the crisis through an inclusive, free, fair and transparent Syrian-led and Syrian-owned process" and emphasized that it is our priority to exclude terrorist elements from this process.
