Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu hosted Foreign Minister Miguel Vargas of the Dominican Republic in Ankara, on 19 April 2017.

The visit constituted the first official Foreign Ministerial visit from the Dominican Republic to Turkey, and was scheduled ahead of Turkey-Central American Integration System (SICA) Second Foreign Ministers Forum and Turkey- Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) Quartet Fourth Foreign Ministers Meeting to be held in Istanbul, on 20 and 21 April 2017, respectively.

At the bilateral meeting of Minister Çavuşoğlu and Minister Vargas and the following talks between the delegations, Turkey-Dominican Republic relations and regional developments were discussed.

A Declaration of Intent on cooperation between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the two countries was signed. Minister Çavuşoğlu and his counterparty Vargas held a joint press conference and replied the questions of the media.
