United Nations General Assembly held a plenary meeting today (20 November 2015) on irregular migration in the Mediterranean basin and Syrian asylum seekers.

In the meeting where speakers from over 60 countries will take the floor, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Naci Koru addressed the UN General Assembly on behalf of Turkey. In his speech, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Naci Koru briefed the Assembly about the humanitarian assistance Turkey provides for the Syrian asylum seekers and drew attention to the global dimensions of the irregular migration and refugee crisis in the Mediterranean basin. Underlining the indispensable role played by the UN in finding a common solution to the crisis faced by the UN, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Naci Koru pointed out that burden sharing in addressing this situation is a collective responsibility for humankind.
