BN:2- 6 March 2008, Information Note for the Press Regarding Humanitarian Assistance to Tajik Government.
The Turkish Government has decided to provide the Tajik Government with emergency humanitarian assistance of approximately 200.000 USD, taking into consideration the urgent needs caused by harsh winter conditions and the related energy crisis in Tajikistan in recent months.
This assistance has been sent to Dushanbe on 4 March 2008 with a Turkish Red Crescent cargo plane and delivered to Tajik authorities for distribution to needy persons
On the other hand, in the context of Turkey’s overall development and infrastructure assistance, reaching until now 10 million USD, projects like the restoration of Chorboh orphanage and the establishment of a water plant in the city of Hisar were undertaken. Most recently, the Turkish Government has provided financial assistance in the amount of 100.000 USD towards the reconstruction costs of the Tajik Medical University, which was burned down in December 2007
The close cooperation between Turkey and Tajikistan in bilateral and international fields is steadily developing and initiatives of solidarity like the ones above reinforce the sentiments of friendship between the two peoples. Turkey has always stood by the brotherly Tajik people and its government and will continue to do so.
