Turkey has been closely following the recent events in the north of brotherly country Afghanistan. Turkey is concerned about the escalation of the tension connected with these events. We are deeply saddened by the death and injury of numerous civilians during the demonstration that took place on 28th of May in Sibirgan, the capital of Jowzjan Province. We express our condolences to the families of the deceased and hope for the speedy recovery of the injured.

Turkey calls upon all relevant parties to act with common sense and moderation for the continuation of peace and stability in northern Afghanistan. In line with this, Turkey takes all the necessary initiatives with all the relevant parties, with a view to diffusing the current tension as soon as possible. Our efforts to this effect will continue.
