We have learned that the landslide and flood due caused by torrential rains have claimed the lives of 83 people and caused excessive material damage in Afghanistan. The Afghan Government has declared state of emergency in 13 provinces and made an appeal for international assistance. NATO International Security Assistance Force and International Committee of the Red Cross have already commenced their assistance activities in the region.

Following these developments, Turkish Chief of Staff has assigned a military cargo plane in order to carry a total of 10 aid personnel from the Turkish Ministry of Health and Turkish Red Crescent Society who will make a survey in the region to shed light on the humanitarian assistance to be sent by Turkey. The plane will also carry an emergency humanitarian assistance comprising 800 blankets, 80 tents and 80 kitchen sets. The said plane, destined to Kabul is planned to leave Ankara tonight (4 April).

Turkey will continue to support the friendly Afghan Government and the brotherly Afghan nation in these dire straits caused by natural disasters.
